Where to go in Melaka besides Jonker Street

4:53 am

When someone mentions Melaka, Jonker Street always comes to mind like it's synonymous. And people always say that Melaka is all about food & more food. Well, they are not wrong but you cant be eating 24/7. So here are some places to visit (or avoid) in between your food trail:

Nonya Memoirs

Be transported back in time & become a peranakan for a few hours! Walk through this gorgeous & realistic stage-sets while snapping tons of insta-worthy photos.

Hands up if you agree with me that he rly looks like a fruit seller here hahahaha 🙋🏼‍♀️

One of my fav part of the sets - this vintage stairs that leads to nowhere 🤫

For an additional 10 Rm, you can put on the costumes & get your picture taken and printed. More worth it for females cause the selection for men is very limited.

A must visit if you're into peranakan culture and want insta-worthy pics.

Open daily: 11am-9pm, last entrance 8pm
Entry fee: RM 15 Adult, RM 10 Child
Location: Level 3, Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall
Website: http://www.nyonyamemoirs.com

Menara Taming Sari

Melaka's version of the 'Tiger tower' we have in Sentosa, just cheaper. We headed here hoping to get 360 views of the cityscape but guess what!! It was closed for maintenance that day 😭 😭

Electric Car Ride

Such as bummer but we found this cute electric car for rent at the area.

Took this compact vehicle out for a ride woohoo! & boyyy did we get many stares from everyone 😅Oh yknw, just us kool kidz cruising down town~ 😎

Give it a go if you guys are there! It's quite fun haha.
Rental Rate: RM20 for 15 minutes
but they have longer duration packages too

Mamee Jonker house

Get to "create" your own cup noodles here! Choose from 3 flavours or have a mix of all, then decorate your cup first.
Here's kong's attempt...

and...he gave up 🤣

Next, choose your 3 ingredients & the staff will add it in for you

Push a button from the customer side & your cup noodles get capped before this airtight seal stage.

And that's it! All we even did was press a button 🤨 Expected more hands-on experience cause paying 30 Rm for 6 cups is not cheap at all.

Upside Down house

Fool your friends here with these shots! Everything is stuck on the ceiling to give the illusion that you're upside-down. Just remember to rotate your photos afterwards.

Tips for making your photos more realistic:
For guys, either tuck your shirt in or lift it up
For ladies with long hair, gather all your hair in front of your face & get someone to take a burst shot (or just one really well-timed shot) while you flip it up and try to still look cool 😆 Takes a few rounds of practice so find a patient photog!
If you're planning on creating this gravity defying shot, avoid wearing a dress/skirt!

Getting sucked to the ceiling kinda shot

Expected the area to be bigger but it was quite small actually. Nevertheless, the staff are friendly & would be glad to take photos for you. Expect some Q if you're going on a weekend/PH.

Non Malaysian entry fee:
Adult: RM20
Child (below 12 years old): RM16

Freeport A'Famosa outlet village

For outlet shopping! Find brands like cotton on, nike etc.

Quite a far drive out from jonker street so don't waste your time travelling here if you're only planning to stay in the city center. Stuff is not that much cheaper so we didn't end up buying anything. But the compound is nice so it's a good stop-over place for food en route to like A'famosa waterpark.

A'Famosa (water park & old west)

Drove a long way here & regretted it. The waterpark was nothing like expected. It was poorly maintained & the toilet.....what should I say, deserved to be demolished? The condition & bad stench was such a put off I couldn't even bring myself to change into my swimwear, let alone bathe. Plus it was crowded & drizzling with lightning so we gave it a miss.

Thought we could salvage our trip here at Old West with some activities but...let's just say it's another disappointment. But im still gna share out time here just for the lols.

Cant stop laughing at this everytime I watch it HAHA! Just look at him getting scared by a goat's sneeze 😂

Christmas dance fail....spot the lazy santas

Played some stall games & it reminded me of the pasar malams in Sg in the past. Really $1 three tries hahaha I miss those times!

Look at my drama bf 😂

The condition of the game stalls were like so backward I thought it wasn't in use anymore 😒

This was why we came, for the fire show! Not bad but that's the only highlight we stayed for. Supposed to have fireworks to close the night but we left during intermission. GOATS were left running around, into the seating area, eating people's food & there were rubbish left everywhere. IT WAS CHAOS!

Spend your time elsewhere!

Other places that we didn't have time to check out:

Huskitory Cafe

You don't have to travel to Bkk to snuggle with these adorable huskies!
ermaigodddd arent they cute!! Was supposed to head down but we were late & our reservation got cancelled sobs 😭  Please make a reservation via fb chat before you go to avoid disappointment.

Melaka tropical fruit farm

A 30 min drive away from Jonker Walk but im sure durian lovers would go the distance. Do look out for the Durian fest held annually on their Fb page.

For non-durian lovers like me, you can have a go picking other fruits such as rambutans etc. A full guided tour + tram ride would be around 15.90RM/pax. I think it includes fruit tasting session after that so quite worth it.

There are also deers, horses & ostriches for you to feed!

Just key that in, whether you're taking a Grab or driving there & you are good to go!

Was gna say you guys can visit Lockdown, the escape room in the mall just below the skytower but just found out that it recently closed down. Even the only other one closed down too. No idea what's going on but what a pity 🤷🏻‍♀️ I guess we'll just stick to Escape room Singapore then.
