On the 2712nd day of our relationship, I said yes!

I knew kong was planning a proposal but this came as a huge surprise! If anyone's keen to know, here's how it all happened:

Sometime last month, my friend sent a link into our group chat asking us to join a giveaway. Being the cheapo me, I took part. Clicked on the google form, answered some questions about dialogue in the dark & provided my particulars. 

May I just say, the description looks so legit! I didn't even suspect a thing. A for effort 👏🏼

So anyway, a few weeks later, I received this text from an unknown number:

wow so good at pretending! 😂 

Let me sidetrack & talk about the 'recee'. So one day I saw the DiD namecard in his wallet & teased him, asking if that was part of his proposal plan. He gave the kena-exposed-but-still-trying-to-fake-it expression haha & brushed it off as site recee for his company's event. And luckily I didn't read too much into it.

Fast forward to actual day, he picked me up at the nearest mrt & we headed to NP. Told him to drive faster as we were running late but he was moving at a snail's pace!

"A lot of humps la, cannot drive fast!"

Nice try, even on the flat road he also drove damn slow can! Little did I know that he was actually stalling for time hahaha. He even pretended to not know the route to DiD building & drove a big round around NP 😅

After he finally chose a parking lot, I dashed into the DiD doors.

Took a quick glance through the foggy glass door as I entered, fixing my eyes on the lady in black among the "other customers".

"Hi, Im looking for Serene"

In return, I was given a confused look on her face. Does she not even know her own colleague's name, I thought to myself.  Before I could explain I was here for the giveaway, a male staff stepped in & introduced himself. He then asked if he could brief us outside, to which we obliged even though it felt odd to me.

I later found out it was kong's attempt of crisis management haha! He mouthed "go outside" to get me out cause I was just a few meters away, in full view, of the "other customers"! I actually saw everyone but didn't get a good look at each of them. Can't believe I was about 3 locker spaces away from my sis & didn't know it was her?? Everyone including kong thought that the plan got ruined.

Luckily, Im a blur kid 😅🦑

Dinner time:
Got led into the dark & introduced to our visually impaired guide for the night, Serene. She told us to reach for the water jug & to pour ourselves a cup of water. Having never tried this feat, I precariously filled my cup just a little, unlike my noob partner who spilt his drink in the process 🤦🏻‍♀️

We learned from Serene that the visually impaired would usually stick one finger in to check the amount of water. Glad to learn something new.

During dinner, we chatted as usual about our day even though I realized kong speaking louder than usual haha! It was actually him trying to distract me from the background chatter which was quite loud. I could hear "number 1, 2, 3" & the waiters' voices but that was it. Couldn't recognize any familiar voices.

Halfway through dinner, kong said he had to visit the toilet (again).

"Huh didn't we just went?"
"Stomach ache la", he exclaimed & proceeded making his way out.

It took him quite long to return & in that span of time, I was thinking to myself if this could be part of a proposal. Shoved that thought to the back of my mind when he came back as he seemed normal. You're thinking too much Jo, I thought to myself. (Apparently not HAHA)

After we were done with dessert, the staff asked everyone how their experience was.
"Fantastic! Great!" some people shouted.

"Now let's see how you've eaten. We are gna turn on the lights but I need you to keep your eyes closed as they need time to adjust to the sudden brightness" he announced.

Being a rebel as usual, I opened my eyes the moment I sensed light. Saw my dessert bowl with a tiny piece of fruit left. Looked up, saw a camera staring in my face. Looked to my right, and got the shock of my life! (A pity the camera didn't capture my epic face)

Kong was in a suit, looking at me.
My heart was pounding while thinking "omg, what's happening? Is this for real?"

Then he pointed to the screen in front & a video started playing, with Ed Sheeran's Perfect as the soundtrack. It was a montage of our dating pictures, put together by kong.

And then, the moment I've been waiting so long for:


"Yes" I whispered, with tear filled eyes.



Don't know if you guys can hear me saying "it's too loose" 😅
 After that I was like "why you never ask me dress nicer!!" and my mum agreed hahaha.

Later found out all the lies that my friends were feeding me & all the pretenses! They also shared how they accidentally kept calling each other's name during dinner & changed to "1 , 2, 3" to avoid getting exposed. Also my mum thought that I pretended to be surprised as they were quite sure I saw them at the start haha!

So that's the story of how I got duped.



Happy how it turned out to be successful & also the first couple to propose in the dark at DiD. Also found out that they don't do dinner in the dark, only lunch, but made special arrangements for us. Thank you to the team at DiD and kong's colleague, Jason, for taking time out after work to be our photog. Also a big thanks to all my friends & fam who took time to join us. Special mention to my sis who took half day leave to help kong with the setup.
 Most importantly to my Fiance, Kong, thank you for this! For all the planning, hiding, secretive half-day leaves, learning premier pro, coordinating with my friends & fam etc. 🙆🏻‍♀️
