#30 Singapore Really Really Free Market (SRRFM) by Post museum
4:28 am
Hello guys, how are your holidays going? If you are interning, I feel you. Week 2 of 10 only and I cant wait for it to end so I can travel! So anyways, did you guys know that there is actually a FREE (not flea) market in sg? It's really 100% free!
The Really Really Free Market is a temporary market based on the concept of giving and building a community based on sharing resources, caring for one another and improving the collective lives of all. So how it goes is that there will be a different location each month where anyone can come & take anything that others have left behind. If you have anything to contribute, just feel free to leave it there. If not, it's totally fine (you don't have to feel guilty or anything).
I attended the one back in January & it was located at 'The Mill'. It was our first time there so we didn't know it was like an art space/gallery which was gna be torn down for construction. Anyways, we reached there pretty late, close to 5pm (?) and started unloading the stuff we brought to giveaway. After that we looked around to see if anything caught our eyes & guess what? I scored a pretty vintage looking sling bag (which my sisters have been using ever since the day I brought it back)! I also picked up a set of poker cards (for you know, when friends come over for chilling session). That was pretty much it cause we didn't stay long as kong was feeling unwell that day & there was nothing else that I fancied.
I guess it really depends on your luck cause the early bird may not necessary get the (good) worms. Sometimes the good stuff may not be there so early as people (like us,hehe) still stream in with stuff as late as 2 hours before the end of the event.
Here's some of the stuff that day (but every event differs):
If you guys are wondering if kong got anything from the market, I can only say he was very "lucky" because he got..................a SAMAN!!! HAHAHAHA! So make sure you find a legit parking lot if you're driving (don't say never warn you guys)
Moving on, there were some other activities taking place at the mill so I joined in a bit. There were paint provided where you can freely paint on the walls.
Also, there was some paint party going on for the kiddos & I managed to snap a pic of dem cuties :)
This little girl is way too cuteeee
Chanced upon the mill organizers preparing for the destruction party with their cool diy helmets
So if you're wondering when the next event will be held, it's on Sunday, 31st May, 2pm at Blk 90 Pipit Road (nearest MRT: MacPherson). You can check out more info on their fb page here!
Some questions you may be wondering:
(info taken from their fb page)
What to do if I want to attend?
-Do announce your participation on the fb wall so that they have a rough gauge of how many mats they need, and also, so that others can be inspired too!
Do I need to bring a mat if i would like to leave something there?
-Several mats are available on a first-come-first-served basis. If you have mats to lend them for the event, please bring them on the day.
Can I bring anything and leave it at the free market?
-Please be considerate to not leave faulty items or trash/rubbish as it's not a rubbish dump! I also think that bringing food is not a wise idea. They reserve the right to turn away people and items which are deem unsuitable.
How do I get there?
-Refer to their fb page as sometimes people/organizers will leave a comment on the buses you can take to get there or the nearest mrt.
What happens to all the leftover stuff after the event?
-Due to lack of storage space and manpower, all items left over at the end of the session will be disposed of. As such, please plan to stick around or come back at the end to claim your remaining items. If you have a vehicle and will drive the left-over items to a charity, do let them know!
Can I help out with the event?
-They welcome volunteers who want to help during the event to sort items, guide visitors, man the SRRFM booth etc. Do send them an email at admin@post-museum.org if you would like to help.
Is there any other things that I can contribute besides my preloved items?
-Yes! Some people provide tarot card reading, doodling service, free haircuts etc.
How do I know when the next event will be?
-Simply like their page on fb to get notified of upcoming events.
With that, I hope you guys will join the upcoming event and may your kampong spirit be ignited. Spread the love and inform all your friends and family too. See you there and thanks for reading! ^^
