#14 Xcape (bugis village)
2:57 am
Hello guys, we finally got to try Xcape! The concept is similar to 'The Escape Artist' we went some time ago so we were curious how these 2 companies would differ. But before I continue, let me rant. So there's another similar company called FreeingSG. &I just cant take it when all these companies claim to be "THE FIRST 5D escape room in Sg" when obviously all of them were not set up at the same time right (i think t.e.a was really the first). I mean don't they do market research? Tsk. Okay sorry but it just annoys me..
Moving on...so we went to the bugis village outlet & it was a double date with my sis hehe :) We went quite late at night so we were sorta left with ''the vampire diaries" theme. Wasn't what we wanted but oh well. The hour flew past quite fast, & as expected we didn't manage to escape on time.
Okay so here's my comparison:
Pax allocation
|
Tries to squeeze as
many pax into one room/timeslot = Playing
with strangers. Isn't it just weird playing with people you just met?
Thumbs down to their profit maximization method.
What's more is that
not everyone will get an equal chance to solve the puzzles so some will just
wait for the work to be done. Paying $28 to chill in the room while waiting
for the mystery to be solved. Like srsly?
We were paired with 5
other guys so 9 pax in total. Not acceptable for me even though the guys were
nice.
|
Min.
2 pax even though the recommended group size is min. 6. They were really cool
about it. Thumbs up to the whole room all to ourselves!
|
Ambiance/deco
|
According
to movie/drama theme so it’s more interesting. Could tell from their room
deco that their budget is higher.
|
Not
as well decorated
|
Staff/service
|
They
were decent & patient
|
Really
friendly & warm
|
Gameplay time
|
1
hour with NO walkthrough. Another
one of their tactics to attract customers back to complete the game.
|
1
hour (or more depending) WITH
walkthrough. (i hope they haven’t changed this)
|
Gameplay experience
|
Didn’t
feel as though we were really locked up cause when we needed help with the
clues, the staff would unlock the door & enter. Sort of spoiled the “locked
up” feeling when you peek back into reality.
|
Really
felt as though we were left on our own in a dungeon cause the only help we got
was through a telephone. More realistic.
|
Price
|
$22/before
6pm, $28/after 6pm everyday
*however,
they’re having a promotion on qoo10 now so $14.90/weekdays before 6pm,
$18.90/weekdays after 6pm (both outlets)
Purvis Street: $21.40/ weekend whole day
Bugis:
$26.90/ weekend whole day
|
Bukit
timah outlet: $15/before 6pm, $18/after 6pm everyday
Princep
street: $22/before 6pm, $28/ after 6pm everyday
|
Technology
|
More
tech-savy equipment used in terms of props & a variety of locks (not just
the typical 4 number or key locks)
|
Unlocking
typical locks after locks
|
Verdict: If you don't mind playing with strangers & want a more interesting theme with a wow factor, Xcape will suit you better. If you're more into solving puzzles then caring about the deco & uncomfortable with playing with strangers, then go for t.e.a.
This coming holiday, we would definitely go back for more @ both companies. Not gna try freeingSg though, only 40 mins -.- 1 hour not even enough!
Till next time, xx.
